Song of the Mountains

‘Before you study Zen,
mountains are mountains and rivers are rivers;

When you study Zen,
mountains are no longer mountains and rivers are no longer rivers;

But once one has enlightenment,
the mountains are once again mountains and rivers again rivers.’

A study of five fundamental elements and forces of Nature;
Earth, Water, Energy, Air and Emptiness.

Shot in the remote mountains of Himalayas in Sikkim, where Tibetan Buddhism is a way of life, the film portrays the ‘Laws of Nature’ by observing the cycles and rhythms in which these elements and forces are created, destroyed and change forms.

Devoid of any speech, the sound track plays diegetic natural sound and recordings from Buddhist chants and prayers woven together in a symphony of Sound and Silence.

A lyrical abstract expression in film language.
